Amalaya - Hess Salta Valle Calchaqui
It's been a little too long since my last post and for this I apologize! Things around here seem to have settled down a bit and in honor of this I think we should have a glass.
While the summer months are technically upon us, the weather still isn't all that warm. We don't need to subsist on whites and rosés exclusively just yet. I, for one, am still making use of my movie-watching couch blanket at night (but that could just be a symptom of my basement dwelling).
This red blend from Amalaya made its way to my glass via a couple of generous editors I work with and one impromptu weeknight pizza party. A little while back, my pal decided to invite a few friends to a DYI dinner while her BF was out of town, and we chose this bottle to crack open while we chopped and prepped. It was a gift from her boss and quite a delight.
This $20 gem is a blend of Malbec (a perennial fave), Cabernet Sauvignon, and Tannat, which lends it a balanced, full-bodied flavour. There are a few hints of raspberry on the nose and plums on the palate, but there's no need to concern yourself too much with the profile. Just grab a bottle en route to your next dinner party and enjoy!
