Sumac Ridge Sparkling Gewurztraminer

This is part three of my four-winery Okanagan visit; technically it was the first stop, but that has more to do with geography than choice. Not to say that I wouldn't put these guys at the top of any list — they continue to produce consistent, VQA-standard wines.

One of my favourite things about Sumac Ridge is how they've always let their wine speak for itself. Their labeling is simple, and I find it refreshing. They don't have a great deal of heritage, so think it's very wise of them not to jump on a gimmicky band wagon (not a cutesy animal in site!).

The wine store was also simple — clean, both in design and organization — and the staff were knowledgeable without being pretensions. Everything that we tried was great, but this stood out for me, as a self-proclaimed Gewurztraminer addict.

Sumac Ridge produces a solid sparkling wine called Stellar's Jay Brut that I've enjoyed once or twice, but a Sparkling Gewurztraminer was like something out of a dream. Let's be honest: there are a lot of really terrible sparkling wines out there, we're all tired of hearing them called champagne, now we're getting tired of being served these abominations on festive occasions.

I have a bottle of this crisp, fruit forward wine in my fridge as I write this, and I have some important news coming to me in the next week or so. Let's hope the news is good so I can pop this bubbly open!
