Fern Walk Pinot Noir

The sun is shining, spring has finally arrived, it's Friday evening and for some reason I just want a glass of red wine.

I'm aware of the fact that red wine season is quickly drawing to a close, but the heart wants what the heart wants. Also, I'm making pizza from scratch for the first time and red wine just seems to fit better with the meal to come.

The BC Liquor Store closest to my office is small, but it has a decent selection, so I put my faith in them to lead the way. I spent a good 15 minutes wandering around the store hemming and hawing over whether I should just go with a rosé (the sun was trying to sway me, clearly), but in the end I went for a BC Pinot Noir from Fern Walk.

Pinot Noir, especially those from the Okanagan Valley, are some of the lightest reds around. I'm not familiar with Fern Walk, but the price point, VQA certification, and Oliver BC terroir lead me to believe this was probably the wine I was looking for.

Needless to say, this Pinot Noir did not disappoint. It's light and juicy without being overly sweet (not that I expected it to be sweet) and the fruit notes are subtle and satisfying. I'm definitely going to recommend this bottle for a spring picnic or breezy grill-out — I'm told it pairs well with salmon, tuna, and pork chops, if you are inclined to grill meat. Otherwise, I would say it pairs very well with Miss Vicky's Balsamic and Sweet Onion, because I'm a classy lady who likes red wine and potato chips.
